Edwin Voskamp at the Movies

I never watched mutch television, but went to the movies several times a week since I was 18 years old. These days I've got a Digital Sattelite System with every choice you can get, including piles of HBO, Showtime, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera, movie channels. And of course all the pay-per-view movies on DirecTV. I watch several new movies a week and see piles of old favorites time and again.

What do I watch?

I like a good movie that forces me to think while I watch. Unfortunately, that is a rare movie. Usually, the level is such that I can read or paint while watching a movie (actually, I am 'watching' a movie as I type this). To my defense, I'd like to add I can listen to something while engaging the rest of my brain in some other, non-auditive activity.

What do I recommend?

This set is somewhat ecclectic, so hang on to your seats.

  • Casablanca, To Have and Have Not, The Maltese Falcon, The Big Sleep, Key Largo, The Treasure of the Sierra Madre
  • The Usual Suspects
  • Immortal Beloved
  • Groundhog Day, Stripes

Bullwhip Cracking
I attended a bullwhip handling seminar given by Gery L. Deer in Ann Arbor, organised by a friend of mine who had seen Gery perform at a local Science Fiction convention. Since I have practiced diligently and acquired two more whips: it is boatloads of fun!
Tekumel Published
With two friends I have developed a new RPG set on Tekumel for Guardians Of Order, a Canadian RPG company. It is out!
RPG Updates
I have been running my new game settings, based on my serial campaign concept, as well as have complete websites: ShadowWorld Mainline, ShadowWorld WWII and Grand Design.
I am working on a new current day ShadowWorld setting, with a new, entirely different cosmology.
Underworld is now ShadowWorld
Underworld, though laying claim to prior use, was renamed to ShadowWorld in the summer of 2002, to avoid confusion with earlier published role playing games with same or similar names.
It was moved to its own website.
